Introduction
In 2018 the first conference Advances in Sámi Archaeology was organised and held at the Siida Museum in Inari, Finnish Sápmi. Themes that were discussed then were centered to Burials and human remains, Social implications and ethical considerations, Memory, traditions and religion, From hunting to herding, and Settlements and networks.
Now it is time to gather again and discuss where Sámi Archaeology stands today and how to bring forward the field and research. The themes for this 3-day conference are Sámi archaeology, Indigeneous methodologies and Ethnobiologies. Each session will be introduced by keynotes. Then we hope to get you to present your past, current or future research on these themes and for each session we’ll have a workshop to, hopefully, fully discuss the potential of research and how to further with it.
The conference is organised by Markus Fjellström (Department of Archaeology, University of Oulu; Silvermuseet/INSARC, Arjeplog; Archaeological research Laboratory, Stockholm University); Ingela Bergman (Silvermuseet/INSARC, Arjeplog) and Malin Brännström (Silvermuseet/INSARC, Arjeplog).
The conference is financed by Göran Gustafssons stiftelse för natur och miljö i Lappland och Sametingets kulturstiftelse (SE).
