Advances in Sámi Archaeology, 6–8 June 2018

Where does Sámi archaeology stand today? What new methods and theories have become available to researcher within this field over the last ten years? What new results have been produced? And what ethical issues do these new approaches bring to the fore?

In this conference we aim to gather researchers and recent results of Sámi archaeology to discuss these issues and map out future research strategies and challenges as scientific approaches and issues continue to develop in Sámi research and society.

NB! Parts of the conference are livestreamed on Youtube

The conference is organised by Tiina Äikäs and Anna-Kaisa Salmi (both Department of Archaeology, University of Oulu); Marte Spangen (Department of Archaeology, History, Religious Studies and Theology, University of Tromsø); Markus Fjellström (Department of Archaeology and Classical Studies, University of Stockholm); Eija Ojanlatva (Sámi museum Siida, Inari), and Veli-Pekka Lehtola (the Giellagas Institute, University of Oulu). Our conference secretary is Eeva-Kristiina Harlin.

The conference is financed by KONE foundation (FI) and Riksbankens Jubileumsfond (SE).
